At the Friends Annual Meeting, February 2, a check for $17,500 was presented to Marcia Atilano, Director of the Dripping Springs Community Library. We raise most of this money at the Pouring Over Books event, the biggest fundraiser each year.
Last year, some favorite activities the Friends helped sponsor, included the Jackie Robinson program, jazz performances, planetarium exhibits, and puppet shows. The Friends paid for numerous tablets for kids and adults, awarded as reading incentives.
We all enjoyed the live music of the Hill Country Ramblers and the tasty food prepared and served by Route 12 Filling Station.
The highlight of the evening was Ben Rehder, sharing some behind-the-scenes anecdotes from his life as a local celebrity author. He explained the origins of the colorful characters who populate the Blanco County Mystery series and the idea behind the new Ray Ballard books. Thanks, Ben, for sharing your day with us and bringing some laughs with you.
Pouring Over Books takes a lot of teamwork to accomplish. We want to give special thanks to Martha Brown and Kim Frederick, who chaired the very successful event, and all the board members who worked so hard to raise money for the library.
John Hoag, our recent past president, was one of the original founders of Pouring Over Books and continues to offer enthusiasm and energy- especially in recruiting sponsors. This year we officially recognized Gavin Loftus of Edward Jones and Scott Daves, owner of Stanberry Real Estate, for underwriting this event for nine years. Their extraordinary donations have covered the expenses of the event, allowing the balance of the money raised to go directly to the library.
Twenty-two local businesses stepped up to support the library this year with monetary and in-kind sponsorship. Generous donors contributed more than 35 items and services for the Silent Auction, too. Please check out our sponsor page for information on all these folks. Make a point to give them your business, and say ‘thanks’ for supporting our community.
We’re already planning next year’s Pouring Over Books, and we look forward to working with all of our library supporters as soon as possible.
