Pouring Over Books

Pouring Over Books, along with the accompanying Wine Divas Wine Tasting, is our premier annual event.

Each year, library supporters enjoy an evening with a local author and a complementary selection of fine wines and premium teas chosen by our Wine Tasting Divas, along with delicious light bites. This fundraiser has been hosted at the homes of gracious hosts and a variety of Hill Country venues. In 2021, we shifted to a Virtual Event, due to the pandemic.

Generous local businesses and individuals donated marvelous items for a Virtual Silent Auction, as well. This event would not be possible without our many community sponsors who demonstrate their support of our community library.

February 28, 2021, we enjoyed hearing from local author, Joe Nick Patoski. He entertained the audience with stories from the Texas music scene. We were also privileged to have musician, author, scholar, and more, Craig Hillis join us.

Previous years have featured authors and musicians such as Ben Rehder, Nathan Brown, and Larry D. Johnson, former Poet Laureates of Oklahoma and Texas, respectively, singer/songwriter Kasey Landsdale, and Susan Wittig Albert – among others.

It’s too soon to say what’s planned for 2022 but we know it will be fun and raise more funds for our deserving Dripping Springs Community Library.

Thank you to our sponsors, speakers, and all the hardworking volunteers that made this year’s event possible.

Ongoing Events

Christmas on Mercer Street

The Friends enjoy sharing a booth with the Dripping Springs Library at the 15th Annual
Christmas on Mercer Street. We will have loads of like-new books for sale and information about
our group. The street comes alive on Saturday, December 7 from 10 am to 5 pm as Mercer
Street and the Dripping Springs downtown area transform into a hometown holiday festival.

Enjoy holiday shopping, arts and crafts booths, live entertainment, a petting zoo, trackless train,
pony rides, children’s activities and more.

Book Sales

The Dripping Springs community has a lot of booklovers. With the addition of the Big Blue Bin located in front of Sententia Vera Cultural Hub, we are collecting a lot of great books. In fact, our Book Sale chairperson says they’re amazed at the quality and quantity of books being donated.

Teresa Carbajal Rivet has generously allowed us to use the front porch of the Hub to have a Spring Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 22, 2021. It’s one day only, so mark your calendar.

The Wine Divas Wine Tasting

The Wine Divas is a generous group of library supporters who contribute to the Pouring Over Books event by contributing a $300.00 donation and attending the gala wine tasting party. They always have a great time while choosing the wines to be served at the Pouring Over Books event. If you’re interested in joining the party, just get in touch.

Occasional Special Events

Each year the Friends sponsor various events to raise awareness about the Dripping Springs Community Library and raise money to support the library.

In 2019, we enjoyed ‘Letters+Tunes ’ a CD release party and book reading by Nathan and Ashley Brown at the Station at Mercer Street, including complimentary wine and snacks. Christmas on Mercer 2020, we were excited to have a socially-distanced table and sell several hundred dollars worth of books.

We are hard at work planning even more events for 2021 with consideration for the restrictions of COVID-19.
