Pouring Over Books

Pouring Over Books, along with the accompanying Wine Divas Wine Tasting, is our premier annual event.

Each year, library supporters enjoy an afternoon with a local author and live music. Attendees enjoy a complimentary selection of fine wines, premium teas, and beer along with delicious light bites.

This year, the Friends decided to forego the usual Wine Diva Event, due to COVID precautions. A special party to socialize and honor these generous library supporters will be scheduled later in the year.

Generous local businesses and individuals donate marvelous items for a Virtual Silent Auction, as well. This event would not be possible without our many community sponsors who demonstrate their support of our community library.

In 2021, we enjoyed hearing from local author, Joe Nick Patoski. He entertained the audience with stories from the Texas music scene. We were also privileged to have musician, author, scholar, and more, Craig Hillis join us.

February 27, 2022, we were all excited to be together in person back at the Prospect House while also broadcasting virtually. Austin author, Sarah Bird, shared a behind-the-scenes view of her writing process and enticed us with a presentation of her newest book, Last Dance on the Starlight Pier.

Craig Hillis generously provided background music.

Thank you to our sponsors, speakers, and all the hardworking volunteers that made this year’s event possible.

We’re happy to announce that Pouring Over Books raised more than $8,200.00 for the library this year.

Ongoing Events

Christmas on Mercer Street

The Friends enjoyed visiting with shoppers at the 17th Annual Christmas on Mercer Street. We sold loads of like-new books for sale and shared information about our group.

Each year the street comes alive on the first Saturday of December from 10 am to 5 pm as Mercer Street and the Dripping Springs downtown area transform into a hometown holiday festival.

Don’t miss holiday shopping, arts and crafts booths, live entertainment, children’s activities, and more.

Book Sales

The Dripping Springs community has a lot of booklovers. With the addition of the Big Blue Bin located in front of Sententia Vera Cultural Hub, we are collecting a lot of great books. In fact, our Book Sale chairperson says they’re amazed at the quality and quantity of books being donated.

The Friends collect quality used books during the year and sell them at Christmas on Mercer, Founder’s Day, and occasional other sales throughout the year. Please bring donations to the Big Blue Box located on the front porch of the Sententia Vera Cultural Hub.

The Wine Divas Wine Tasting

The Wine Divas is a generous group of library supporters who contribute to the Pouring Over Books event by contributing a $300.00 donation and attending the gala wine tasting party. They always have a great time while choosing the wines to be served at the Pouring Over Books event. If you’re interested in joining the party, just get in touch.

Occasional Special Events

Each year the Friends sponsor various events to raise awareness about the Dripping Springs Community Library and raise money to support the library.

In 2019, we enjoyed ‘Letters+Tunes’ a CD release party and book reading by Nathan and Ashley Brown at the Station at Mercer Street, including complimentary wine and snacks.

Christmas on Mercer 2021, we had a booth selling like-new books, raffling off some great gift baskets, and talking about the Friends. We were proud to raise another $1,000. for the library.

We are hard at work planning even more events for 2022.
