Friends’ President, John Hoag, reports that the 6th annual Pouring Over Books, meet the author and wine tasting, held on February 26, 2017, exceeded all expectations.   Attendance (154 people) more than doubled.  The number of sponsors more than doubled, and gross receipts and net dollars raised (almost $9 thousand and counting) likewise more than doubled. Stated Hoag, “A determined team of volunteers, together with a diverse, community minded sponsor group, and a bevy of silent auction donors all came together to make this by far the most successful event to date.”

Susan Wittig Albert, noted New York Times bestselling author, enchanted an overflow crowd with an interesting tapestry of anecdotes about her early writing career, collaborations with her husband, Bill, and insights into her work right up to the minute, including The General’s Women, to be released in early April. Albert’s mainstay China Bayles mystery series appeared to be widely known by her attentive audience, in addition to her more recent historical fiction works, such as Loving Eleanor, about  former First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt.

Reflecting on the event’s remarkable success, Hoag noted, “We had an outstanding  group of sponsors, including Prospect House, who opened their doors wide for us, HEB who provided TABC certified pourers, Scott Daves (Stanberry Commercial Real Estate) and Gavin Loftus (Edward Jones Investing), who are our original Underwriters and still going strong, our own Wine Divas and so many others, all of whom we value highly.”  He added, “Because Dripping Springs has a robust nonprofit sector, we know the business community is solicited heavily. When a local business person is willing to dig down and donate in-kind goods or services or write that check, we are honored and humbled they believe in our particular cause, supporting our community library.”

Hoag concluded by inviting all interested parties to the Friends’ Annual Meeting when the annual gift to the library will be presented.  For a full list of sponsors, please go to
